On Tuesday November 13, 2012 the Office of Fire Prevention and Control issued
Orders to deploy crews from Rensselaer County to Nassau County for Hurricane
Sandy disaster relief. The deployment which included EGFD and Center Brunswick FD
were ordered to arrive in Westbury, NY by 0800 hours on Wednesday, November 14,
2012 for mutual aid coverage of Fire Stations.

With less than 12 hours' notice Engine 9 and Car 3 departed the Park Station for
Long Island at approximately 0130 hours. A crew of six firefighters under the
direction of Assistant Chief Robert Lehmann arrived early for their assignment
with minimal rest. Chief Lehmann, Captain Greg Forgea, Lieutenant Matt Sullivan,
Commissioner /Firefighter Ed McCabe, Firefighters Mike Forgea and Josh Witco
volunteered for a 72 hour commitment.

On behalf of the EGFD and Fire District # 3, I would like to commend Assistant
Chief Lehmann and his crew for offering assistance to the victims of the recent
storm devastation. I would also like to thank everyone who has helped with the
relief effort. The selfless dedication shown proves you are willing to help others
in their time of need without asking for anything in return. Your actions make me
proud to be a Chief and a member of the EGFD.

Our efforts may only slightly ease the burden to those affected by this tragedy;
but together we can make a difference showing pride in our organization. I ask that
we keep the crews in our prayers for their safe return home.

Thank You
Kevin Hitchcock
Chief Engineer
