At approximately 1500 hours on
Sunday the East Greenbush Fire Department was dispatched for a reported
structure fire in the rear of a business on Columbia Turnpike. First
arriving chief officers found a 45ft trailer full of hay well involved.
Truck 11 arriving first due opened up the trailer and gained access for
the engine crew. The first due engine arrived and stretched two 1 3/4 attack
lines as well as a 2 1/2 inch line and began fire suppression. Crews
knocked down the bulk of the fire within minutes after arrival but
remained on scene for over two hours hitting hot spots and opening
up the front of the trailer. A special request was made for one
engine/tanker from Clinton Heights to respond to shuttle water.
Car 1 operated on scene with 3 engines, 1 rescue, 1 truck company, utility 11
and car 2. At the time of this article the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
