5/15/2016 Mutial Aid runs for Structure fire and Porch Collapse. by Greg Forgea
On Sunday afternoon, East Greenbush
was dispatched as part of a second alarm assignment with Defreestville Fire
for a working fire with a possible victim trapped. First in crews made an
aggressive interior attack, knocking the bulk of the fire down minutes after
arrival. Simultaneously, fire suppression was under way as well as a primary
search for the reported victim. Searches came up negative, but multiple pets
were rescued. The crew from Engine 8 provided ventilation and scene support
while on scene. Crews were placed in service after working on scene for just under two hours.
While East Greenbush and other mutual aid
crews were operating at the multi-alarm fire, Clinton Heights Fire was dispatched for
a reported deck collapse with victims trapped. After first responding, units were
provided updated information. A special request for East Greenbush Rescue 11 was made
to respond. EGFD Car 4 arrived and met command to establish a plan to stabilize the porch.
The crew from Rescue 11 deployed Rescue 42 stabilization struts to secure the hanging deck.
While stabilization was being conducted, CHFD crews were removing the victims and packaging them for transport.
A special call was made for the Colonie Village Fire Department to respond with their collapse unit.
After the arrival of Colonie Village, the scene was deemed stable and turned back over to the homeowner
and the town building department. Two victims were transported to area hospitals with unknown injuries.
The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
