9/10/2016 Green County Parade. By Peter Lehmann and Greg Forgea.
On Saturday, September 10th, the East
Greenbush Fire Company participated in the 128th Annual Greene County
Volunteer Firemen's Association Convention held in Kiskatom, New York.
This Annual Convention, held during the month of September, was hosted
by the Kiskatom Volunteer Fire Department, who is celebrating 70 years
of service. As this convention is comprised of fire companies in Greene
County, East Greenbush from Rensselaer County was honored to be invited
by the Kiskatom Fire Company to participate. The 23 member strong East
Greenbush unit, under the leadership of Chief Robert Lehmann, was led
in the line of march by the Red Caps.
Just before stepping off,
the parade came to a quick halt when a large tree fell, bringing down
powerlines which landed on a parked fire apparatus. After an hour delay,
the local power company arrived, secured the wires, and opened up the
road so the parade could continue.
During the award ceremonies,
the East Greenbush Fire Company was awarded the 1st Place Out of County
Color Guard trophy and the Best Appearing Overall Unit Out of County trophy.
The members of the East Greenbush
Fire Department would like to thank the Kiskatom Fire Department and the
Greene County Fireman's Association for the invitation. A great time
was had by all.
