3/18/2017 Thin Ice Rescue in Stephentown Fire District by Martin Miller.
On Saturday March 18, A man walking his dog cut
across a pond and broke through the ice. He was in about five and a half of water, that was
just about freezing. Two guys working at Zwack Industries heard him screaming for help.
He was through the thin ice about 80 feet out and behind a knoll, they are about 300 feet away.
Stephentown Fire Dept. responded from less than a mile away, they arrived to find two men with rope,
but he couldn't pull himself onto the ice. Ladders and other rescue devices were employed successfully.
This man was very VERY lucky that he could be heard.
