Saturday evening, 3/6/2021 at 8:48 pm, the Castleton Fire Department was toned out for a reported chimney fire,
but when police arrived on scene, they had a working structure fire with fire showing from the exterior of the structure and the second floor.
Tankers were called and then the second alarm was transmitted at 9:09 pm. East Greenbush Engines 7 and 9
and utility 11 responded to the call.
The fire was knocked down by 9:32 pm and overhaul commenced. Mutual aid from numerous fire companies from
Southern Rensselaer County and Columbia County were brought in to the scene to help extinguish the fire. The home suffered extensive damage.
