5/31/2021 Tanker Truck Roll Over on American Oil Rd.
At 14:49hrs on May 31, 2021 , the members of
the East Greenbush Fire Department were transmitted for a tanker roll over
at the end of American Oil Road in the Port of Rensselaer. East Greenbush Car 2 (G.Forgea)
arrived on scene within a couple of minutes and located a tanker on its
side just off the roadway. Car 2 assumed fire command and met up with the
driver who was able to extricate himself from the truck cab through the driver's door.
The driver was not injured.
Car 2 relayed to incoming units that the
tanker was just filled with 8,000 gallons of jet fuel.
Car 3 arrived moments later with Engine 7, Engine 8, Engine 9, Rescue 11, Truck 11,
Utility 11 and Car 1. Car 3 was assigned the operations chief.
Car 2 requested Engine 7 and Engine 9 establish a water supply to Engine 8 for foam
operations. Command requested the Rensselaer County Hazmat Team
and an Assistant Chief from the Troy Fire Department. Multiple mutual aid companies
were requested to the scene or for cover assignments due to the active scene. The Clinton Heights Fire Dept responded to the scene with the Rensselaer County foam trailer.
An empty tanker truck from Massachusetts
had to respond to the scene along with a maintenance technician
from the trucking company. However, they were a significant distance away, which
caused this incident to last a significant amount of time. The empty truck
and maintenance employee arrived 4 hours later. Once the truck arrived on scene the
jet fuel was offloaded by pump.
A tow company arrived on scene later on during the late-night hours and truck was
removed from the accident scene safely.
All Egfd units were clear from the call around 2:00am.
